Villa Vanilla

Villa Vanilla is a house-renovation project in Belgium. The original one-storey cottage was purchased in 2016. The idea was to add a second mezzanine floor and expand the home with 2 extra bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The name ‘Vanilla’ originated from our dog, a spotted German Pointer, Vanilla.

The vision was to build a cozy, bright home with a wood stove in the woods. The rural surroundings—with vast grass fields, grazing cows, and small creeks dominating the scenery— inspired our material pallet. This rustic atmosphere served as the starting point in the design process and guided the spatial configuration and its relationship with light. We wanted this home to become a place for memories, warmth and familiarity. A refuge from the city's hustle.
